Bill Bryson's "notes from a small dale" delight marketing officials - so said the press article describing how TML were delighted when Bill Bryson, the best-selling US author, agreed to record the introduction to our Teesdale Itineraries podcasts.
The podcasts are the Discover Teesdale team's latest venture and, by working with Radio Teesdale, they will be available in the summer.
The introduction in which Bill Bryson, who is a regular visitor to Teesdale, extols the virtues of Teesdale, can be heard on www.teesdalediscovery.com and www.teesdalemarketing.co.uk

Discover Teesdale from the comfort of the hotel bedroom
More than 70,000 leaflets promoting Teesdale have been produced and distributed throughout hotels and guesthouses in the North East, Cumbria and Yorkshire ready for the start of the start of the tourist season. The leaflets have been inserted into the accommodation providers' Bedroom Browsers and each leaflet is expected to be seen by at least 45 people during the course of the season.

Taking a Hotline to Virgin Trains and Living life in the North
The summer edition of Virgin trains magazine "Hotline" will feature a promotional page about Teesdale and its ease of access from Darlington railway station whilst the next edition of Living North will feature an editorial about the dale and its attractions. Both articles will be illustrated with images of Teesdale.
FAM success!
Days after a bespoke FAM (familiarisation visit), the visiting niche-market operator informed the Discover Teesdale team that they would be adding Teesdale to their range of overnight tours immediately! "The dale offers exactly what our customers are looking for" they said.
Supporting other organisations -Walkers are Welcome scheme: the concept for this initiative started in Hebden Bridge just a year ago and is fast spreading across the UK. The scheme is being actively supported by TML as it aims to promote walking and boost the local economy by bringing more trade to local businesses. The idea behind the scheme is quite simple: provide walkers with the right facilities, make them feel welcome and they will be encouraged to stay longer and make better use of local transport/cafes/restaurants/shops/accommodation to the benefit of businesses in the dale. To gain accreditation, we need to be able to show public support - copies of the form to be signed are available at various outlets in Barnard Castle and Middleton-in-Teesdale. Supporting other organisations - 2008 Barnard Castle Meet: we are very pleased to announce that through the Events Project we are able to support this year's Meet. Just under £5,000 is being contributed towards the cost of publications and activities to help ensure the sustainability of this important annual event which brings significant economic benefit and pleasure to Teesdale: its businesses and residents. The contribution will be used to support the print of the 2009 Meet Calendar, a historical book about Barnard Castle and professional artistic assistance.

Teesdale Skills Development Programme: Project Director Graeme Gill; Project Leader: Andy Leitch
What do mole catching, horse hoof trimming, town planning and National Arts fundraising all have in common?
They are all part of the varied range of non-compulsory training for Teesdale residents/businesses which has been funded through the TML Skills Development Programme. This hugely successful project comes to an end on 31st March 2008 together with the services of Andy Leitch. We would like to thank Andy for his tremendous efforts in managing this project over the years and wish him a very happy retirement!
